Frequently Asked Questions
Do you accept insurance?
I am an out-of-network provider and do not accept insurance. However, if you would like to use insurance for sessions, I will provide you with a monthly “superbill” to submit for partial reimbursement. Please check with your insurance provider about their out-of network coverage for mental health.
Why don’t you accept insurance?
Here are some of the advantages of not using insurance:
You won’t have a diagnosis/label permanently attached to your private health record. I believe you are more than a diagnosis and are capable of healing.
Your records are fully protected. Your insurance company cannot obtain the personal information you share with me in therapy.
Your treatment will not be dictated by the insurance company. You and I will collaborate to decide the treatment options that are best for you. Mental health care should be personalized on a case-by-case basis. You are unique and may not fit into the insurance company’s idea of “one size fits all” care.
How do teletherapy sessions work?
Sessions utilize a HIPAA compliant secure online platform. Before our first appointment, you will receive forms to complete with instructions on how to access and use the platform. Teletherapy sessions are available to clients who reside in Georgia and Florida. Due to licensing requirements, clients must be physically located in Georgia or Florida for sessions. You will need a reliable internet connection and a comfortable and private space.
Is online therapy as effective as in-person?
Yes. The Covid-19 pandemic led to research that verifies that virtual therapy is just as effective as in-person therapy. It also allows for the convenience of staying at home and not worrying about traffic and parking.
Why Walk & Talk Therapy?
Walk & Talk therapy allows us to “get off the couch.” I’m a firm believer in the mind-body connection and movement is one of the best ways to tap into this. Our mental health affects our physical health and vice versa. Some people also find it easier to open up and process thoughts and emotions when they are moving. Other people find face-to-face eye contact to be too intense, and prefer to walk side-by-side when discussing vulnerabilities. Added bonus — your well-behaved dog is welcome to join!
How long are sessions?
Standard therapy sessions are 50 minutes long and must begin by 15 minutes after the hour. Together, we will decide how frequently and for what duration we will meet. This will vary depending on individual needs. Most people find that weekly sessions are best for making progress toward therapy goals. Many people will experience improvements in 6-8 sessions, while others may need to engage in therapy for 6-12 months or longer. My goal as a therapist is to provide tools to empower you so that you no longer need therapy.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
If you must cancel or reschedule a session, please do so 24 hours in advance. You will be responsible for the entire fee if you cancel or reschedule in less than 24 hours.
